Fighting Fire with Data
In collaboration with our student team, the Fort Myers Fire Department has been developing a better process for identifying at-risk buildings. Current identification methods are inefficient and leave thousands of buildings susceptible to fire and safety hazards every year.
By the end of the project, our team was able to leverage key city datasets to develop and train a machine learning model that accurately scores buildings from 1 to 10 (low-risk to high-risk). Taking it one step further, I led the team to conduct numerous user interviews along the way in order to provide a solution that combines both data science as well as UX design.
